I hadn't realised until just idly digging around online that Irvin Kershner has died too! Director of arguably the best Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Robocop 2 died aged 87. Dam it.

A new restored and updated version of Fritz Lang's 1927 science fiction master piece Metropolis is out. With 25 minutes of lost footage. If you count yourself a sci-fi film fan and haven't seen it you really should. Blade Runner and Star Wars will ever be indebted to Lang's vision.

SCI-FI LDN 9...

I'm sure you're all aware but The 9th Annual International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film opens next Wednesday - 28th April...
The opening film, sadly sold out, is the Guillermo del Toro produced gene tinkering thriller Splice, plus loads of other brilliant other worldly cinema, like the japan-alive-all-nighter showing the likes of the Tokyo Gore School. Brilliant.

I'm mostly looking forward to the feature debut from the makers of the kick-ass short Batman Dead End. Sandy Collora's Hunter Prey. Check the trailer and if you haven't seen Dead End, shame on you...

Just a quick note to let all and sundry know of the imminent DVD release of a rather smashing film entitled "Moon Walk One". This little gem has been sitting on the shelf for forty years but now we can all see truly amazing footage of the Apollo 11 space mission, some even shot inside the capsule by the astronauts themselves. With the magic of digital polishing and a brand new 5.1 sound dust off this really is a little gem for sci fi fans and enthusiasts alike.

Alive in Joburg is an brilliant sci-fi short by Neill Blomkamp, great idea, amazing SFX and it's nice to see a story that dosen't take place in New York and totaly outside the USA.
It's currently being adapted into a feature called District 9. Watch the skies...
