'What's the Pope's job?'

Channel 4’s new reality interactive TV experiment.
‘Seven Days follows the interwoven lives of some of Notting Hill's most colourful characters’

After about 7 minuets I felt like I had to write something down.
As compelling as watching a torture film; it’s not nice and I hate it, but I continued to watch.

‘I wouldn’t even wear that dress for sick children.’

Sam and Laura the two hateful upper middle class girls in Soho shopping for a French maids dress, I missed why they require one, but it was the most entertaining strand of the show. Especially the line: ‘I hope no one sees me in here’ uttered by one of the girls as they entered Harmony, a licensed Soho sex emporium, followed by a camera crew. I’d like to think she was making a joke, but I doubt it.

They seem to hate each other and themselves, with zero self esteem and confidence, which is strange as I discover they are models and the maid outfits were for a tacky looking awards ceremony… Thinking about it, perhaps it’s not so strange.

‘I feel like Paula Radcliffe on her first marathon.’

Hannah, the 26-year-old mummy’s boy, - sorry girl. She reminds me of Tracey Emin, not sure why, big mouth I think, or perhaps it’s her vagueness towards her privileged life. Very dull trustafarian, not much to report. Highlight is her overuse of ‘Mummy’.

‘I’d rather be pregnant for every day of the rest of my life, rather than deal with the ensuing children.’

I didn’t get her name and I don’t care. What kind of mother says that? And what kind of mother says that on TV? Brilliant.

‘I put him in the fridge on his favorite pillow, I covered him in rose petals and want away for two and a half years.’

Keith Richards sound-a-like and property developer, sitting in his plunge pool talking about a cat he had for 14 years.

Moktar, a new law student doesn’t see the point in going to university if the government can’t guarantee him a job. Doe’s the state owe him a living? Or should he work hard to make something of his life? To be honest, who cares?

I just wanted to express some feelings about this show, I doubt I’ll watch it again, it’s not the programme makers I have a problem with; I just find the characters so shallow and hateful. It makes me squirm to watch, perhaps that’s an underling problem I have with my fellow humans or it might just be the people chosen to be in 7 days.

Check it out on 4oD.

Short change...

I was never a real LOST fan, I'm a real sucker for the 90/120 minute structure, I find serials frustrating, usually choosing to wait and watch the whole thing back to back on DVD.
LOST had a different feel when it started back in 2004 and I know fans read so much into the cryptic unanswered scripts. Don't get me wrong I like ambiguity, you always need to hold something back, but the LOST creators seemed to leave so many loose ends...
One thing this video proves is that who ever made it was paying attention.

And it aint Bob Marley...

Hooray for Zombieland!!! It was a lovely refreshing take on a tired and overused horror device. The good news is that the writers have a go ahead for a sequel. More good news is that originally they planned on making it a tv series and so have "a wealth of material" at their disposal. After a sequel news is that a series is still very much on the cards. This twinned with the fact that Frank Darabont is still rumored to be directing "The Walking Dead" comic book franchise also as a series can only point out the obvious. Zombies just will not lay down and die...

Blade Runner parody, pretty good...

Plus a few behind the scenes videos. Interesting to see they used the Red One cameras...

Next time Gadget...

I've just been reading some reviews on Ain't it Cool, not impressed by M. Night Shamalamadingdongs latest offering The Happening, I didn't think it was that bad. (If you like the premise check out The Signal.)

Anyway, main reason for the post was the upcoming Get Smart. I didn't realize that the new Steve Carell spy spoof is a feature remake of a long running 60's US TV show. (I thought it was Hollywood's answer to Johnny English) Created by Mel Brooks it starred Don Adams, known better to us dogs as the voice of Inspector Gadget. Get Smart ran for 5 series from 1965/1970 and won 2 Emmys and got a few Golden Globe nominations. Inspired by the Man From U.N.C.L.E. Mel Brooks created the original spy spoof, paving the way for Police Squad and the like. The re-runs probably had some affect on a young Mike Myers leading him to develop his most lucrative character; Austin Powers. Indeed Peter Segal who helms the film had previously directed Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult the third installment in the escapades of Lt. Frank Drebin previously of Police Squad. Lets hope it's better than that.

The few reviews I have read have given Get Smart the green light, mainly complementing Anne Hathaway on her performance as Agent 99 and her newly found sexual chemistry with the leading man. Can't say I've seen much of her acting career, perhaps this is a move away from dull teen chick flicks like Elle Enchanted and The Devil Wears Prada and could be her breakthrough performance.

Looking around at Get Smart trivia I learned that there was an attempt to revise the original TV series back in '95, 25 years after the original. It flopped and only managed one season. No idea if Mel Brooks had anything to do with it but I did find out that there is an Animated series of Spaceballs! How cool is that? And why didn't I know about it? Brooks voices some characters also with a return from Daphne Zuniga aka Princess Vespa. Gonna try and get hold of it.
