The Emperors New Typography...
Should I post this? It's not a spoiler but you may prefer to watch this in the cinema. But I just have to talk about the Watchmen Title Sequence.

I originally got this link of Motionographer, and I have to say those guys seem to be pissing up each others backs recently because I think the design elements of this title sequence are very underwhelming and poorly executed. Since I posted this, they removed the whole post... I'm not sure why. Infringement? Or just because they realised it really didn't deserve to be on the front page? Here's a quote from the original article;
"Yu and his creative team wove meticulous detail into the type design. Rather then simply lay 2D type onto the foreground of the live action, it is incorporated in 3D into each scene."
You can see the titles now over at Yu+Co's website, that's if you can actually navigate it. The video is very slow loading as well - I'll repost a better link when I find one.
So basically they've made some tracked on type. Well done guys. You took a fixed typeface and colour, and tracked it into a pre-made sequence. Badly. IMHO, the designers at Yu+Co don't get brownie points for completing such a standard job. However - one has to consider that perhaps people are more impressed by this title sequence, because of the fantastic cinematography, grading and editing. Let's hope the rest of the film continues in a similar fashion... I thought as a whole the titles were very absorbing and beautiful to watch. The type could have given so much more impact to the overall sequence - there's no excuse really when you're filming straight from the pages of a graphic novel.

Who watches?
Got some Tweets from Wossy AKA Jonathan Ross on last nights Watchmen London premiere:
"So we saw Watchman last night. Apologies for not tweeting after - was a late night by our standards ! Watchman probably the most faitful adaptation of a comic to the big screen. Ending changed very much for the better. Great sets, costumes, special effects - Rorshach especially good. Downside - too long, too reverential, lacks pace and feels a little dull at times. In short - I love it and at same time am unimpressed ! Opening montage sequence to watchman just brilliant though. Had me grinning from ear to ear. there was a super cool yellow carpet at the premiere with the blood splattered smiley face on it. IWOOT."
I trust him...

The film that can't be made...

Well it was all going sooooo well, apart from no giant squid at the end, but it looks as if the Watchmen curse has started.
Fox wins ruling in the Watchmen case. Read the Variety article here. Hopefully we'll still get to see the final cut but Fox seem to have won distribution rights off Warner Bros. Nothing is ever easy.
Happy Chrimble one and all dogs...

Oh, chemist, eh? Do we get to blow something up, then..?
There was a screening in the US of Watchmen - the whole film apparantley. And I found this trailer from Comic-Con. It's got some other stuff.
Not that it really matters, people who have seen it say there's no squid dude at the end and loads of speed ramping. Slo-mo is cool, but too much and it starts to feel like double spacing an essay to make it look longer.

Who will watch the Watchmen...

Ok, here it is. Probably the most anticipated comic-book to film adaptation in recent memory. Its based on the Eisner award winning, Alan Moore scripted, Dave Gibbons illustrated cult graphic novel Watchmen. Probably my all-time favourite comic book ever, alongside Alan Moore's V For Vendetta and Phil Hester and Mike Huddleston's The Coffin. If you haven't read Watchmen I strongly suggest you buy a copy now and read it before the films release, its utter genius (not a word I use lightly). Anyway, Zack Snyder (of 300 fame) is directing this one and they have just released the first trailer. I have to say that it looks fantastic but whether they will do justice to the source material remains to be seen. Watch it here in glorious HD.
