Musical fairies...?

Lucas related but not Star Wars related: George may be taking a trip out of the far away galaxy to pursue a CGI musical about fairies...

Check the post on Heat Vision, sounds nuts. Teaming up with Kevin Munroe of recent CGI TMNT fame and David Berenbaum writer of Elf and The Spiderwick Chronicles, and *cough* The Haunted Mansion. *cough*.
Anyhoo, might be interesting, might not. What is interesting though is that Mel Smith, from Smith & Jones once worked with Lucas on Radioland Murders back in the mid 90's, with Ned Beatty and Christopher Lloyd. Small strange world...

The Fly...

That's right we all new that it had been earmarked for the re-tooloing, re-imagining and re-making, only what we didn't know was who would be directing the Cronenberg body shock classic The Fly. Well it turns out that Cronenberg will be directing the Cronenberg body shock classic The Fly. Big sigh and relax. Well not quite I say, let's not forget that Carpenter "oversaw" the writing and directing during the remaking of his classic The Fog... and that was cack....

Timecrimes...

No idea what's going on, but some dude sends himself a couple of hours back in time and has to sort it all out. Sounds interesting, plus Cronenberg plans to remake it in 2011. Might be brilliant.

Opera the new 'remake'? I hope so. Hollywood loves a sure deal and to audiences annoyance keeps revisiting old successful scripts. I think they should take David Cronenberg's lead. It's been posted before but I found a good review with a music sample. Hope it travels to the UK - If not I hope they fix the Chunnel!

Be afraid. Be very afraid...

Caught an article about this in the Metro last week - David Cronenberg has put his nasty vision of The Fly on the stage - an opera stage at that.

The Fly The Opera premiered in Paris at the begging of this month and will move to LA in September - returning to the story's original roots, at least in part, Cronenberg and his team have set the brilliant scientist's mishap back in th 50's. Cronenberg has said he always thought there was something operatic about the story, describing it as "a profound parable on love and loss."
Sounds super interesting, and knowing Cronenberg he won't disappoint. Makes a change I suppose from film remakes and musicals based on films. Stage adaptations might be the new remake aparantly Charles Wuorinen is adapting Brokeback Mountain for New York City Opera - due out in 2013 - we'll see.
