Spaced out...

Remember all that chatter a while ago about Spaced going to the States and how they loved it? Well it turns out, as with everything that the Yanks pick up, they were planing to remake it.
If you've seen the Red Dwarf US pilot, your gonna love this. Part of the Spaced pilot discovered in the depths of YouTube by Tim Tim Bisley/Simon Pegg himself, tweeted and picked up by film bloggers alike. (I've got Den of Geek.com to thank.)

It's always strange seeing remakes - an there are loads about, but the TV remakes are slightly different. They use the same script, tweeked to fit the US humor, but still so familiar. The sound design and styling are reminiscent of the original. It feels the same but diluted, there's something 'parallel universe' about US sitcom remakes. Has a few recognizable faces, Daisy is that ginger one from that rubbish office comedy - Less than Perfect, Mike is that big bloke from that rubbish office comedy - Less than Perfect etc. All the characters names have changed too, according to the original post, when you're starting out and you sell the intonational rights to a show, you don't care or consider what's gonna happen down the line, you just want to get it made.

Whatever comes from this strange clip will never mar the original, I may be biased, living a street away from the house used for the exterior location for Megatron Lane, but the original is what helped propelled Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg into the heady film making stratosphere, and nothing the US do with the Spaced scripts is gonna change that. Too weird.
