Ever heard of the law of diminishing returns? Neither have the producers who decided it would be a good idea to re-invent/re-boot/re-shit out a film that isn't even a decade old.
2001 - The Fast and the Furious was released.
2003 - 2 Fast 2 Furious was released.
2006 - The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released.
2009 - Fast & Furious will be released.
They managed to get the original cast back, I'm sure it wasn't too difficult to persuade them. Can't really think what Paul Walker has been in since the original Fast and Furious. Flags or our Fathers according to IMDb, But that's sort of it. Aint It Cool describe him as a blond Keanu. Michelle Rodriguez was the angry one in Lost, but most people stopped watching that around the time the writers gave up caring about the audience. Obviously Vin Diesel is back, or should I say Mark Sinclair Vincent. He continues to do what he's good at, running, jumping and wise cracking in subsonic tones. Sadly the dystopian offering of Babylon AD starring Diesel was pretty rubbish, nice ideas and a good look, just left me cold. Shame as Mathieu Kassovitz was a brilliant director, with films like La Hain under his belt.
Anyway check the new Fast and Furious trail here, crazy driving and a huge petrol tanker, that just has to roll. I love car stunts so I may actually go and see this, but I don't really understand what the studio's are doing. It may be as simple as; "it worked the last time, lets do it again, no one will notice." I realize it's a different script, I'm just getting a little sick of the distilling of ideas and making the 'definitive' versions of stories. Instead of The Fast and the Furious it's just Fast & Furious. There seems to be no real imagination left in the Hollywood mainstream, but you didn't need to read this post to realize that.
On a side note, whilst on IMDb I noticed there are no less than nine films that share the same title Fast & Furious. The earliest was a short silent comedy was released in 1915, it doesn't list a director or a synopsis, but I bet it's better than anything recently with Vin Diesel.

Don't go and see it! You'll only encourage them!
Very very good points. All the fast and furious movies just roll into one long and confusing neon race fest for me. It's like playing Sonic the hedgehog on acid. maybe.
